Missing Drop collects as little personal data as a studio website can. This page says what we collect, why, where it goes and how to make us stop.
Who we are
Missing Drop is a solo design studio run by Julien Buisson-Fizellier, based in Paris, France. We are the data controller for the data described here. Write to hello@missingdrop.com for anything about your data.
What we collect, and why
Newsletter. When you subscribe in the footer, we collect your email address so we can send you occasional emails about new collabs, briefs and method updates. Legal basis: your consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a)). Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing withdraws your consent.
Project brief. When you send a brief through the contact form, we collect your name, email address, the brand or company you work for if you give it, the services you are interested in and your message. We use them to reply, prepare a quote and work with you if we go ahead. Legal basis: taking steps at your request before a contract, and performing it (GDPR art. 6(1)(b)).
Technical data. Our host, Vercel, keeps short-lived server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) to run and secure the site. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site working (GDPR art. 6(1)(f)).
Audience measurement. We use Vercel Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and shows us aggregated counts, and Google Analytics 4, which sets cookies on your device to tell returning visitors apart and reports visits, pages read and rough location to Google. We have turned on IP anonymisation and data minimisation in Google Analytics. Legal basis: your consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a)).
Buying the guide. Payment happens on a Stripe checkout page. Under Stripe Managed Payments, Link (a Stripe company) sells the guide to you as merchant of record and collects your payment details under its own privacy policy; we never see your card number. We receive your name, email address and purchase record so we can email you the guide and help you if something goes wrong, and keep them for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Providing your data is never compulsory, but without an email address we cannot reply or subscribe you.
Where it goes
We do not sell or share your data for advertising. It is handled by a few service providers acting on our instructions, each bound by a data processing agreement:
Beehiiv stores the newsletter list and sends the emails. Resend delivers your brief to our inbox. Vercel hosts the site and runs its analytics. Stripe handles payments. Google runs Google Analytics.
These providers are based in the United States. Transfers are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, as applicable.
How long we keep it
Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. Your address is then removed from the list.
Briefs and project emails: three years after our last exchange, or longer if we work together and need them for the project, invoicing and legal obligations.
Server logs: a few weeks. Vercel analytics: aggregated and not linked to you. Google Analytics: 14 months, the shortest retention Google offers for its own reports.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies (names starting with _ga) that last up to 13 months. Nothing loads until you accept in the bar shown on your first visit. Your choice is kept for six months, and the Cookie choices link in the footer lets you change it at any time. Everything else on the site works without cookies. Third-party pages you reach from here (Stripe, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn) set their own cookies under their own policies.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to access the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, receive it in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@missingdrop.com and we will answer within a month.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the French supervisory authority, the CNIL, or to the authority in your own country.
Changes
If we start collecting something new, this page changes first and the date at the top moves. Nothing we collect today requires more than this page.
